Product Description
Two Day Course – £160
Making baskets from hazel is currently undergoing a resurgence in the UK. I recently spotted these berry baskets on a research trip to Romania and am excited to teach them.
You will learn how to select a good hazel rod for basketry, processing hazel rods into splints ready for weaving and making structure of a basket, handling the rods and strips, soaking the material, dressing it with a knife and the weaving techniques needed to complete your own basket.
Handling the wood, repeated knife work and weaving requires some hand strength. Stripping the wood involves bending it around your knee or over a sort of sawhorse, both require some strength.
Course run by Lorna Singleton at the lovely Warland Farm in Todmorden
