Hi my name is Joe Gregory, I’m a willow basket maker and sculptor based in West Yorkshire. I started weaving as a hobby in 2004 and by 2008, I realised I could make a living doing a craft that I loved. Starting from my kitchen table to now owning a 5 storey Georgian building in the centre of Todmorden; weaving with Willow has provided me with the most rewarding career whilst enabling me to keep my family safe and healthy. I teach sculpture and basket making for everyone from beginners to more advanced weavers.  I have also been lucky enough to teach internationally, as well as up and down the country. I’ve worked on some amazing projects over the years and feel very lucky to have found this beautiful craft. I am comfortable teaching children; beginners and more advanced weavers.  Each class rewards me in different ways. I have been fortunate to teach those with different needs; from sight problems, to people returning from a stroke, to those with their own special needs. I am always happy to craft my class to suit everyone I teach.

“I love traveling to Todmorden to take one of Joe's courses. I've been on six or seven so far and always had a great time and got a pretty basket to take home.” – Nic Owen, 2024

Creative with Nature is a lovely, warm and welcoming space for a wonderful experience learning new skills. Set in a beautiful old building above the café, the workspace for workshops is large, beautiful, light, inspiring and well equipped.

Joe is an expert teacher- really clear, helpful, patient and friendly. She is happy to go over things step by step and wants to help everyone do well, creating something they can be proud of by the end of the course, whilst also understanding the process.

The other teachers I have met here have all also been great. I have learnt so much and developed my skills as a basket maker.

Joe’s expert tuition and range of courses has meant that I have been able to constantly improve my skillset and practice current skills to be able to produce more difficult and also saleable baskets of my own. I have increased in confidence massively through attending courses and have always left feeling equipped to try again at home.

Other courses than basketry have also been very enjoyable here and I have also learnt skills which I can use at home to expand my creative abilities.

The courses are fun, sociable, varied, supportive and stimulating. I love coming to CWN and will be back again and again to keep improving my practice and being inspired to new levels.

Thank you Joe!
